Mr. Daplyn on Physical Education….

The discipline and rigour the 50's child is not within these children, it is going to be tough and we will have to impose that. It is going to be tough, so I am afraid they will have to put up or shut up.

Dr. Pidoux on English Language…

The problem in my view began in the 70's when grammar and all forms of technique fell out of favour, and we are supposed to emphasise (and this was also so in music and the arts) we are supposed to emphasise expression and not the techniques that under pinned them.
So the rot, if you like, started then. We can do better by our children than this. It is not the fault of the teachers they have to deliver what they are given. We need to look again at educational policy and we need to look at it hard.

Mr. Rockell on History…

A lot of them are finding History very difficult. They are not used to someone lecturing them for 40 minutes telling them what happened in a particular period whilst they frantically write down notes.
For GCSE it is a lot more interesting as they are using a range of sources, but hopefully, some are getting it.

Mr. Vince on Mathematics...

Many of the students just couldn't do it, couldn't do long division, couldn't do long multiplication. It was basic skills the bread and butter and it was just not there. So if pupils illustrating those amounts of gaps in knowledge can pass GCSE I'm baffled.
